Our Hot Weather Nesting Box can be used with any of our coop models and is recommended for the Southern climate. It provides plenty of space for hens to nest, while giving them ventilation to prevent overheating. Chickens are more susceptible to heat than cold, so it's important that they get plenty of shade and air during the hot Texas summers.
The unit is 12.5 inches square. Three sides are 5.5 inches tall, with the fourth side (the entrance) being 3.75" high. It is made out of cedar, so is resistant to weather and insects. The bottom of the box is 5mm wood panel.
The unit is very easy to set up. Simply place it inside your coop, or around the yard. The boxes are lightweight so are easy to clean. Just take the box out, empty into a garbage can, add new bedding and you are done.
The Nesting boxes, like all of our Coop components, is fully sealed with food-safe linseed oil. (Linseed is often given as a food supplement to birds — no toxic chemicals.)
